Visual Arts Examples For Extended EssayOver the past few years, I've been involved in teaching a class on English composition and writing essays, which is one of the most demanding assignments I've ever had to teach. The student body for my course is full of writers who are learning to write using the Visual Arts. In fact, half of the students were visual artists and a half were not. My first concern was what to do with the visual artists, as they'd already accomplished a lot of the work necessary to complete the essays.It turned out that the visual artist had already created some extensive documentation of their art in portfolios. He was also a bit more comfortable with the fact that he would be doing this as a part of their job. I discovered that they were in fact, on average, writing even better essays than he was. I would show them a few visual arts samples and ask them to contribute an essay on the artwork. Here are some of my findings.The student who had not shown their work wa s very uncomfortable participating in the essay process. I encouraged him to send me a few of his previous works to see how the essay he was writing would look like. Here's what I found.The visual artist who had submitted short pieces, or even no samples at all, would typically make very little effort to incorporate these visual arts samples into their essay. This was simply not what he wanted to do. I realized that these visual artists had also started to participate in class discussions in which we discussed the work of other visual artists.I encouraged the visual artist to include these visual arts samples in his essay. His willingness to do so significantly enhanced the value of the essay. This gave the visual artist the opportunity to introduce his work to the student population.Of course, the visual artist does not have to use the examples he found in the same way to illustrate his point. He can include them as a way to start a discussion about the quality of the work. He can also use them to provide evidence that the artist was even able to produce the pieces he'd chosen to demonstrate his quality.One of the benefits of using visual arts samples as the foundation for your essay is that they don't need to contain anything specific to your topic. They are designed to help the visual artist begin to create a dialogue about their art and the quality of the work they have produced. Visual artists should always remember that they should always start a conversation with the material they have presented.The visual artist will usually want to discuss their work with other students and you, but they'll generally focus more on their own work, as it relates to their art. If he is working on a project, he'll want to include a photo of the work and this shows the student that he is always happy to share.
